Answer: We have Nicolas Cage to thank for encouraging Johnny Depp to pursue his acting career instead of music.

Depp Married makeup artist Lori Anne Allison on December 10th, 1983 who had later introduced him to Nicolas Cage. Cage encouraged Depp to drop his music career and pursue acting instead. Thankfully, Johnny took his advice. I mean, who else could play Captain Jack Sparrow, right?

Before he was the actor we’ve all come to adore, he had a love for music. Once his mother had given him a guitar at the age of 12, he wanted to make it in the music business. He dropped out of high school to pursue that dream, then regretted it two weeks later, but the principle didn’t allow him to return. She told him to become a musician. Depp played in a band called “The Kid”, but the band had broken up before signing any record deal.

Depp’s first film job was the horror movie Nightmare on Elm Street in 1984. He then went on to become a teenage heartthrob when he played the role of a police officer who goes undercover at a high school for the Fox television series 21 Jump Street and has been a major Hollywood player ever since.
